Ekal Vidyalaya

One Dollar

One Day

One School

One Village

In addition to being a celebration of raas/garba dance and Indian culture, we recognize our responsibility to give back to our roots. We’re proud to work with Ekal Vidyalaya once again as our partner and beneficiary of choice.

The Mission:
To Eradicate illiteracy from rural and tribal India

The Paradox:
While it is making great advances in software, space and nuclear power, India is paradoxically still struggling with questions of basic literacy for a large segment of its population. Ekal Vidyalaya focuses its primary education programs on underpriveleged communities in rural India.

The Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation:
A registered non-profit service organization dedicated to education and village development in rural India, Ekal’s philosophy is to take a holistic approach to social and economic development.

The Movement:
The Ekal Movement is the largest grassroots, non-government education movement in India operating in over 36,363 schools and educating over 897,178 children in rural India.  Ekal is supported by over 26,719 teachers, 5,000 voluntary workers, 22 field organizations (scattered in 22 Indian states), and 8 support agencies. Moreover, Ekal Vidyalaya seeks to empower the village community for its own self-development. Ekal Vidyalya solicits complete involvement of the local community and aims at making the school self-reliant in a period of five to seven years.
